Summer arrives, and you all know what that means: time to get extra serious about sun care. In this season, if there’s one thing I will never be afraid to nag about, it’s the importance of wearing SPF daily (even when you're indoors) to protect your skin from harmful, damage-causing UV rays that result in long-lasting sun damage like sun spots, skin sagging, wrinkles, and so on.

Buying sunscreen used to involve choosing an SPF level and deciding if you wanted to smell like a coconut. Today, different forms of sunscreens have multiplied; sunscreens no longer just come in creams and lotions; you can also find them in sticks and gel form, and there are far more decisions to make. All this to say: I know first-hand that finding the right sunscreen for you and your skin type can be tricky, to say the least, which is why I am sharing my foolproof favorites.

FOR DRY SKIN

If you have dry skin and think that you’re protected by wearing moisturizer with SPF, Think again! It’s just enough to get softer more hydrated skin but not enough for adequate sun protection. Instead, you should layer a moisturizing sunscreen or sun cream that contains powerhouse ingredients such as aloe or glycerin. A’PIEU’s Pure Block Natural Daily Sun Cream is an ideal sunscreen for dry skin types. This sunscreen with SPF 45 will not only protect your skin against damaging UV rays but provides nourishment and hydration, thanks to its aloe, red fruit and flower extracts.

FOR OILY SKIN

When you have oily or acne prone skin, you’re probably on the anti-SPF bus, thanks to a lifetime of dealing with greasy, heavy, and suffocating formulas. To add on that, wearing makeup on top of sunscreen can leave your face looking like a slick mess. But I’m here today to tell you that lightweight, non-shiny, and mattifying sunscreens really do exist for your oily skin. The light, non-greasy formula in Etude House’s Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sunscreen delivers a smooth, matte finish that allows makeup to glide on like a dream. It doesn't cause breakouts and has a soothing, milky texture that settles quickly and most importantly: no need to carry around blotting papers!! Another option for oily skin types is a sunscreen that contain madecassoside and centella asiatica extract. A'PIEU’s Madecassoside Sun Cream has these soothing skin care components that helps soothe, moisturize skin and prevent breakouts.

FOR COMBINATION SKIN

Having combination skin means you may have both dry and oily skin on various parts of your face. If you are struggle to finding the right balance between the sunscreen’s lightness and moisturizing power, then you are not alone! Go for Neogen Dermalogy’s Day-Light Protection Sunscreen. This sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 50 offer light but nourishing hydration from rose and raspberry extracts, and is so easy to layer over skin-care products and moisturizer that it feels like invincible. Also, so far I've never used it in any combination with other skin-care products or makeup products where it's pilled or gotten streaky, which means it plays very well with others.

FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

Sunscreen ingredients can already be a bit of brain teaser for the average shopper, but when you skin is sensitive and can get easily irritated, the challenge of choosing the right protection multiplies exponentially. To ensure you won't burn to a crisp, consider a sunscreen with non-chemical shields like SOMEBYMI’s Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Sun cream, which reduces the risk of irritation to practically zilch, thanks to their "organic, inert, and hypoallergenic" formulas. Or go for a sunscreen with an ultra-gentle and soothing ingredient like COSRX’s Aloe Soothing Sun Cream.

FOR AGING SKIN

It's no secret that you should wear sunscreen daily to avoid premature aging of your skin, i prefer to use it everyday and even the sun isn’t shining . Any typical sunscreen that provides sufficient protection against UV rays, but there are sunscreens available that will double up the sun protection from UVA and UVB (woo!) and anti-aging benefits (double woo!) specifically for mature skin. A tri-functional sun cream like MISSHA’s All-Around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk has mild essence formula to prevent sunburn and premature aging, and Double Layer UV Blocking System to provide long-lasting and impenetrable UV protection. Or if you’re interested in trying out something more unconventional, try a stick sunscreen. The Marine Luminous Pearl Sun Stick from JMsolution with anti-wrinkle effect contains hyaluronic and pearl to leave your skin moisturized and glowing. Its packaging is also travel-friendly, so you can pack it with you for your summer vacay!

From now on, make topping off skin-care with sunscreen a habit! In any way, sunscreen will always be your saving grace.
